Pistol Training

INTRODUCTION TO DEFENSIVE PISTOL (4 hours)

This four hour course is designed for individuals with busy lives.  This course can be reserved for a small group or as individual instruction to fit the student's schedule.  Morning, evening, and weekend classes are available.  This course will instruct students in the safe use of a personally owned firearm for the purpose of home or personal defense.  This class is meant to bridge the gap between basic marksmanship and the skills necessary to produce a weapon from concealment.  Students should expect to shoot up to 250 rounds during this course.

DEFENSIVE PISTOL I (1 day)

This one day course focuses deploying a concealed pistol as a defensive tool.  Prior to attending Defensive Handgun 1, students should be able to demonstrate the safe handling and use of a handgun. Students should expect to shoot up to 500 rounds in this course.

DEFENSIVE PISTOL II (1 day)

Building on the skills learned in Defensive Pistol I, students will learn advanced techniques to engage and neutralize a threat. As in Defensive Pistol I, the focus of this course is the deployment of a concealed handgun for defense.  Students should expect to shoot up to 500 rounds during this course.

LOW LIGHT PISTOL TECHNIQUES (1 day)

This four hour course will teach the student to successfully manipulate a handgun in dark and low-light conditions.  Instructional topics will include techniques for using hand-held and weapons-mounted flashlights.  Students will have the opportunity to shoot a Georgia POST approved low-light course of fire and participate in a structure clearing exercise at the conclusion of the course.  Students should expect to shoot up to 350 rounds.

INJURED SHOOTER TECHNIQUES (1 day)

Ugly Truth: Being a good guy doesn't make you bullet-proof.  It does no good to "win" the gun fight if you don't SURVIVE it as well. This one day class focuses on techniques necessary for a shooter to prevail in a deadly force encounter after being wounded by enemy fire.  Shooters will receive instruction in self and buddy Emergency Medical Treatment, shooting from positions of disadvantage, and one-handed firearm manipulation (dominant and non-dominant hands).  Students will shoot up to 300 rounds.

NRA BASICS OF PISTOL SHOOTING COURSE

The NRA BASICS OF PISTOL SHOOTING COURSE instructs new shooters on the proper function and safe handling of a handgun. Students will learn how to safely use revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Specifically, the course teaches rules for safe gun handling and storage, pistol parts and operation, types of ammunition, fundamentals of shooting, cleaning and maintaining a pistol, and opportunities for further skill development. Due to the blended learning format, the NRA Basic Pistol course is available as an "add-on" to any Private Lesson scheduled through Sparrow Defense. Students can take the course individually, or as part of a small group. Additional information on this class is available from the NRA, by clicking here.

NRA PERSONAL PROTECTION IN THE HOME

The NRA PERSONAL PROTECTION IN THE HOME (PPITH) course is a full day of instruction and involves both classroom study and shooting at the range.  The student will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety, how to respond to a violent confrontation, firearms law, choosing a handgun for self defense, and opportunities for further skill development.  Students will take a practical shooting examination and receive a certificate upon completion of the course.

NRA PERSONAL PROTECTION OUTSIDE THE HOME

The NRA PERSONAL PROTECTION OUTSIDE THE HOME teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home. Students will attend this course using a strong side belt holster or a purse holster that secures the trigger guard and frame of their pistol. From a review of safe firearms handling and proper mindset to presentation from concealment and multiple shooting positions, this course contains the essential skills and techniques needed to prevail in a life-threatening situation.
